The teacher desk is strategically placed in the back corner of the room for a couple of reasons. For one, the teacher has a better view of the classroom from every angle. Also, then the students don't feel like the teacher is only about control, which students may feel if the teachers desk is set up in the front of the classroom. By placing the teacher desk in the back it makes students feel as though they have a little freedom and that they are trusted to stay on task. The students' desks are arranged in a U-shape around a large rug facing toward the projector or in most cases a "smart board." This will ensure that all students at every angle can see the lesson that is taking place in the front of the classroom. This also allows for movement for the teacher to check up on every students progress during the lesson and also for quiet corrections of behavior. The open space and carpet in the center of the room allows for other activities occur during lessons where the lesson can be made more interactive. Also, the carpet can be another spot where students can get up out of their seats and gather for a lesson or during reading time a place to relax. In the top left corner, there are three book shelves in an L- shape with bean bag chairs in front of the shelves. This sets up a comfortable setting encouraging students to read where they feel comfortable. By setting up a comfortable place near book shelves, it may encourage the students to think of reading as a leisure activity rather than just an assignment. The projector or "smart board" is beneficial to students learning by allowing for interactive lessons as well as an easy way to take notes and save them for students who are absent. The location of the projector is important because it allows for ever student to see what may be going on in a lesson from every location in the classroom, so the teacher can put directions on there for students to see. The computer in the classroom helps students learn how to work with technology in ways to enhance their education. For one, there are many educational websites that can help students learn math facts or other conceptual concepts. In the back of the classroom, there is a storage closet, where snacks for the students are held in half of the closet. In the other half of the closer, are a class set of iPads for the students to use. It is a good idea for keeping snacks in the classroom because some students may not be provided with enough food at home or may have missed a meal and may become irritable and act out, so having that for support is very helpful. The iPads are a good tool to use in a variety of different situations. For one, the iPads have many educational applications or supports that can assists students with disabilities or any student who may want a more interactive lesson. The iPads can also be used for research projects and as a dictionary, thesaurus or expanding their knowledge on a concept that they are unsure of. The refrigerator in the classroom is also useful for students to keep lunch items that may need to be kept cold or to have classroom parties and keep food inside of the refrigerator. The sink in the classroom is useful for keeping the students healthy and clean by making sure that the students wash their hands when getting messy or after using the restroom. The sink can also be useful for art projects to clean up supplies or the students after the project. The kidney table can be used for guided reading groups or individual work time between the teacher and students. The shape of the table makes it easy for the teacher to see multiple students work and offer support. The sofas and round table located in the back of the classroom is a great place for groups to meet and work on projects together in a comfortable way. The sofas and round table are also a good place for students to comfortably read on their own or work on independent work.
